Lake Church
WHAT IS “LAKE CHURCH”?
FIRST SUNDAY OF EACH MONTH
For some time, Mark Eichert, Post Oak’s Technical Director, had sensed God prompting him and his wife, Betty, to start a church group at the Boat Club where they live in Cartwright, OK. Mark resisted the idea at first, but God continued to bring it to their attention.
One Sunday, while they were watching Post Oak’s online worship service on their deck, Betty suggested inviting friends to watch with them. A few days later, their daughter and son-in-law independently suggested having church at the lake. For Mark and Betty, that was the confirmation they needed.
Mark spoke with Pastor Randy, who gave them his blessing. They had a sign made, placed it in front of the clubhouse, invited their friends—and people came. That was the beginning of Lake Church.
Lake Church follows Post Oak's "Café Church" format, beginning each Sunday with brunch which gives everyone time to visit, get to know one another, and strengthen relationships. The group then joins Post Oak Fellowship’s worship service through YouTube. They sing the opening song and listen to the announcements. During the meet-and-greet time, they pause the service while Betty leads a discussion using questions from the bulletin. Afterward, they resume the service, listen to the message, and sing the closing song together. They finish by sharing prayer requests and praying for one another.
Lake Church now has about eight regular attendees, along with others who may be at the lake for the weekend and want to join them. God has used this ministry to draw people closer to Him, and Mark and Betty have seen significant spiritual growth in the lives of their neighbors.
Mark and Betty are grateful that God continued to prompt them until they finally said yes. They feel blessed to serve Him in their community and look forward to seeing what He has planned for Lake Church next.
