House of Eli -- October Newsletter

 Celebrating Five Years in Ministry
In September, House of Eli celebrated five years of service to Grayson County and the North Texas area. In the last five years, we have developed relationships with facilities across the state, networked with other nonprofits, designed programming, started our own vocational training program, counseled many young men, and forged relationships that will last a lifetime—not only for our staff, but for our guys. Most importantly, as we reflect on the last five years, we see God’s mercy, grace, and goodness. Our mission is to share God’s love with each and every young man who calls Eli home. Our guys come to Eli angry at God, some cannot believe anyone could ever love them, and others are so shut down emotionally we hurt for them.  Sometimes we get discouraged and wonder if anything will ever get past all that pain. Then, God shows up with a reminder that says, “I am the Savior, not you. It’s your job to trust me and follow.”  Sometimes, on our most difficult days, God reminds us with a simple phone call from one of our toughest kids—a kid that is now in college, working fulltime, and supporting himself who says, “Don’t ever stop doing what you are doing. You showed me over and over that I needed connection, that I needed God. Being there changed my life.”  God reminds us that we are to plant seeds and it is his job to grow them. As we look back over the last five years, there are many reminders that God is present, real, and working. Thank you for walking beside us on this journey. We are excited to see what God will do in the next five years!
DID WE MENTION WE NEED MORE SPACE??
We are out of space!!! Office space, parking space, private counseling space, quiet study space, and “I need a minute space,” are all in short supply at House of Eli. As we have grown so have our needs for space, especially our needs for a computer/study room and private counseling place. Currently, we use our very small office (that is shared by three employees) for everything! There is a property located close to Eli that would allow us to expand parking and build on to the existing house if we were able to purchase it. Please partner with us in prayer as we try to find a way to purchase this property and expand our program to better meet the needs of our guys.
